Why Eggs are a Great Way to Start Your Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
Eggs have long been known as a staple breakfast food. Fried, scrambled, poached … take your pick and enjoy! But is it the healthiest option? In a world full of organic yogurt and granola and fruit smoothies, many of us are left wondering whether our typical eggs and toast is outdated and unhealthy. Luckily for the traditionalists out there, eggs may be a great choice for breakfast after all. Take a look at these reasons why eating eggs is a great way to start your day.
They’ll Help You Feel Full
Don’t you hate when you eat a good breakfast, but in just a few short hours you’re absolutely starving again? When we eat breakfast, we want it to last. We don’t want rumbling stomachs in the middle of our morning meeting. Eggs contain both protein and healthy fat. This combination, when consumed first thing in the morning, helps you to feel fuller longer. This can help you keep a tame tummy, and it may also help avoid that mid-morning snack, and subsequently lose weight in the long run.
They Boost Brain Function
Eggs contain a very specific nutrient that enhances both memory and alertness. What better way to start your day than with a boost to your brain? If you generally have trouble remembering deadlines and meetings or you can’t seem to find that pep in your step in the mornings, give eggs a shot and see if your brain sees an improvement.
They are An Eggs-ellent (ha!) Source of Protein
As already mentioned, eggs contain plenty of protein. But why is this important? Protein helps build muscles, increase the speed of your metabolism, and satisfies cravings in the body. In short, it can help you lose weight, carve away fat, and avoid food binges. When added to your morning meal, it simply sets you up on the right foot for the day. Instead of sugar overload or a carb heavy (sleep inducing) choice, eggs perk you up and get your body moving for the day ahead.
If you’re already eating eggs for breakfast, great! Keep up the good work. If not, it might be a good time to add them to your daily menu. This breakfast food is great for enhancing your health, and it also makes a delicious way to start the day. Buy a dozen, get to cooking, and leave the guilt of a heavy breakfast far behind.
