Are You Green Around the Gills?

By Tom Herrin

Do you ever feel like a color?  In that respect, do colors affect who you are and what you do?  Many people are really influenced by colors they see, wear, use, etc.  Colors actually send signals about who people are and what kind of mood they are in.  People’s productivity may be heavily influenced by the colors of a room, or colors that are highlighted around them.  For years, various institutions have used colors, sometime unknowingly, to influence the people who live or work there.  At one time, hospitals were white or some similar color, schools were a certain color, and no one used multicolored things except entertainment venues.  This has changed as more has been learned about the effect of color on individuals.

Red May Not Be Just For Bulls

For years it seems as if people were led to believe that red was a color that was used to irritate bulls.  Though it really isn’t the reason for the color, the myth was pretty well perpetuated.  Red does have an influence on people.  It is a color that represents boldness or energy.  Personally, I stay away from reds unless I am in a certain mood for boldness.  Some people believe it can raise body temperature and improve various problems related to the blood.  Could it actually improve the function of some organs?

Yellow Can Do Something Besides Indicate Jaundice

Sometimes, when babies are premature or a little underdeveloped, they will have a yellow cast.  This means that the liver is not quite functioning as it should.  A doctor may put them under a light for a little while, or in the case of one of our children, we just put her in front of the window a little each day.  The sunshine does a good job of taking care of the jaundice.  Yellow is considered a color that affects the nerves and mind.  It is considered stimulating.

Green Is Not Always Money Or Envy

The color green is considered to be a color associated with healing.  It is a color that represents nature, as may be obvious.  It can be a grounding color in that it may be soothing and yet energizing.  A green room may have a productive effect on a person.  At one time, it was the universal color of hospitals.  Today, it might be more likely a color used for intense thought and contemplation.  Whether choosing clothes to wear or selecting colors for a room, they can make a difference.  It is something worth considering.
