Keep a Workout Inexpensive with Simple Activities

By Tom Herrin

Contrary to what some may believe, starting an exercise plan can be done with little or no expense.  Memberships to workout facilities are great, but they are not required for someone to have a positive experience exercising.  People can start cheap and simple. Once they begin to see real progress, they can decide whether they need to move on to something else or keep right on doing what they started with.  Jumping rope can be that easy way to test the waters. It is extremely simple and self-paced. There is very little necessary cost besides a rope. Many people even prefer to do it with no shoes.

It Can Help with Coordination

Even though the first thought many people may have will be that they believe they lack the coordination to jump, it is not a prerequisite.  Since it can be taken at any pace, people can jump at any pace that is comfortable for them. Starting slow is ideal. They can increase their speed as they feel like it.  Either way, developing coordination can help avoid accidents and injuries. It can also carry over into other activities, helping them to be more successful.

It Can Improve the Cardiovascular System

Jumping rope is an aerobic exercise.  This means that it is done with a constant supply of oxygen.  It requires, and builds, steady breathing as the body works to move blood to the parts under physical stress.  This supplies oxygen to these parts as they burn fuel. As people work longer in sessions, this heart and circulatory system may become increasingly efficient.  This helps the body to work well overall.

It Keeps the Mind Sharp

Jumping rope can work both sides of the brain.  The work of operating the rope makes a connection in the brain that keeps it active.  The work of landing on the balls of the feet requires concentration as this is a critical part of the activity.  It has been said that it can improve reading skills. It is obvious that it sharpens spatial awareness that is needed to operate the rope and the jumping in any given location.  If you are looking for just the right thing to begin, or enhance, your workout, you may want to consider jumping rope. It can be done almost anywhere at almost anytime.
