Vacation Getaway? Here are Tips to Make It Better
By Brandi Goodman
Going away on a vacation may be exactly what you need right now. Some time away can do your mind a lot of good. However, just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you should forgo healthy habits. Doing things to maintain your well-being is imperative, even if you're away from home. With a few simple tips in mind, you can make the most of your vacation getaway.
Walk to All Your Destinations
Skip the expensive rental car or cab ride and walk to all your destinations. It may not be ideal if you plan on going somewhere farther out from your accommodations, but it works great for anywhere nearby. You'll get to explore the city and find places off the beaten path you may not otherwise have found if you stuck to your GPS coordinates. Plus, walking is a great form of exercise and recommended for good health.
Stay at a Yoga Retreat
You can book your entire vacation based on health and fitness. A yoga retreat is a great option for this. It combines fitness and relaxation techniques that really help you ease your mind and decrease the discomfort your body may be feeling. If you're not into yoga, that's OK. Go on a hunting excursion. Rent a cabin with a friend and enjoy a weekend of hiking. Plenty of other fitness-related vacation options are available.
Enjoy a Swim
Swimming is great for your mind and body. It provides easy exercise that isn't tough on the joints. Bring your bathing suit along and find a place to swim -- be it outdoors or in. Just a half-hour per day of the activity and you'll be boosting your health more than you realize.
Pack Meals and Snacks
One of the biggest downfalls people face on vacation is the constant eating out. Sure, there are healthy options you can find at restaurants and even fast food places on the way, but most meals pack far more calories, sugar, and sodium than your body needs. Pack your own healthy meals and snacks at home and bring them along if you can. It will help keep you on track with proper eating habits and ensure you aren't overindulging on your trip.
Make the most of your vacation getaway with these tips in mind. Incorporating healthy habits into your travel time can give you the best chance of actually getting to enjoy it. It beats ending up too sick or too sore to get through everything you had planned.
