4 Tips to Ensure a Healthy School Season
By Brandi Goodman
The school season leads to health concerns for many students and their families. With kids in close proximity, it's easy for germs to be passed from one child to the next. Those germs then get brought home. With some tips in mind, you can help your children learn about staying healthy no matter where they're at. It will help ensure a healthy school season that keeps them in class more often.
Stick to Sleep Schedules
A good night's rest can help you fight off germs the next day. Someone who is well-rested is more likely to be conscious of their health and their surroundings. Lack sleep and you're more likely to let good habits fall to the wayside. Make sure your children are sticking to their sleep schedules and going to bed around the same time each night so they have a clear mind the next day.
Wash Hands Often
Everyone should be washing their hands daily. Not just once, either, but several times throughout the day. You should wash anytime you touch something that may have been touched by someone else. You don't want to leave their germs on your hands to continue to spread to other surfaces -- and other people. Teach your kids the importance of washing their hands very regularly throughout the day whether they're at school, home, or elsewhere -- but especially at school.
Enjoy a Healthy Diet
Healthy foods packed with nutrition are best. You want your kids to enjoy a healthy diet each day. You may want to consider packing them a school lunch then, as many schools do not offer the nutritional meals students need. Make sure you're including a fruit, vegetable, whole grain, and water. Vitamins and nutrients found in these foods help to keep the brain and body thriving.
Take Vitamins
If you're consuming a healthy diet, chances are you don't need the extra vitamins from supplements. However, your kiddos will need some sort of daily vitamin if you know they aren't getting enough Vitamin C and other beneficial nutrients from their meals. Taking extra vitamins during cold and flu season can be a big help to ward off illness, too. Find a children's vitamin and give them the recommended dose each day based on their age and weight.
Keep these tips in mind for the school year -- and any time you or your children will be around other people. Many of these work well for the workplace also. Staying healthy is important for good health and a positive mindset.
