Easy Ways to De-Stress

By Sara Butler

Stress is a part of life, unfortunately. It’s not fun to experience but it can be dealt with easily with just a few minutes of your time. Finding healthy ways to deal with stress and let it go is something many people struggle with, but if you want to improve your emotional, mental, and physical health, then it has to happen. Here are some strategies that can help!

Just Breathe

Breathing techniques can be a breath of fresh air. If you can take a few minutes out of your day to practice breathing techniques to help you deal with stress, then you may notice a big difference in how you feel.

There are a couple of different breathing exercises you can try:

  • Heart boost – When feeling stressed, take a second to think of something that makes you happy and think about how those things make you feel as you take in a deep breath. On the exhale, push out any negative feelings you are experiencing. When you pair positive emotion with breathing in, then your heart rhythm can actually change and improve how you’re feeling.
  • Power 10 – For this exercise, just take 10 breaths. Inhale for 4 seconds, and then exhale for 6 seconds. Focus on letting the stress melt away as you exhale.

Crank Up the Tunes

Music can have a powerful impact on mood, so if you’re feeling stressed, crank up your favorite song and let the calm soak in. Every morning, start your day off right with some music as you get ready to face your day and you may just notice it puts you in the right frame of mind to overcome any challenge!

Get Outdoors

Nature can be a powerful tool in the fight against stress. The fresh air and sunshine have been shown to help people relax and reduce stress. So, make sure you get a dose of outside time every day, no matter the weather. Just 10 minutes outside can have a real impact on your day – and your stress!

Spend Time with Your Pets

Animals promote relaxation and are therapeutic in ways researchers are only beginning to understand. However it really works, there’s no denying that animals can help you de-stress and provide your brain with a dose of feel-good chemicals that can actually reduce your blood pressure. All thanks to Fido!
