Not Drinking Enough Water? Here's What Can Happen
By Sara Butler
Have you taken note of the fact that almost every article you read about health, fitness, and wellness includes how much water you should be drinking each day? Not to sound like a broken record, but drinking enough water is pretty important to your health. It's so important, in fact, that if you don't get enough of the wet stuff, then some pretty crazy things can start happening to your body. Here are just a few signs to be on the lookout for that you may not be drinking enough water!
You Lose Energy
If you feel groggy, don't reach for that third cup of coffee. Instead, go for a big glass of water. Staying hydrated throughout the day is key to keeping our energy levels up. Even being slightly dehydrated can zap all of your energy, so consider that if you're feeling sluggish.
You Can't Focus
Your brain is about 80 percent water, so it stands to reason that if you're not getting enough water each day, then your brain won't function as it is meant to and that can lead to a loss of focus. Even being slightly dehydrated can impair your brain's ability to function normally, so drink more water if you want to increase your attention and reinforce memory.
You're Cranky
If you forget to drink enough water today and find yourself feeling cranky, then go chug a glass. Studies have found that being even mildly dehydrated can impact mood and cause headaches. No one likes to be around a cranky person, so make sure you're getting enough water.
You Feel Hungry
Many people mistake signs of thirst for signs of hunger. So, if you're not drinking enough water each day, then there's a good chance you may eat too much. Instead of reaching for a snack when you feel hunger pains strike, try drinking a glass of water first. If you still feel hunger 10 to 20 minutes later, then have a healthy snack.
Your Skin Suffers
Your skin is your body's largest organ. If you don't drink enough water, then your skin will suffer as the collagen that binds the skin together begins to crack. This can lead to more wrinkles and fine lines. It's safe to say that no one wants to accelerate the aging process, so make sure to drink enough water to keep your skin young and plump.
Water is essential to your health, so make sure you get enough of it!
