Tips for an Easy, Affordable Spring Detox
By Alexis Mills
Spring is finally here, and it is time to come out of hiding. When it is colder outside, we tend to bundle up indoors and though that's very comfy, the lack of movement can lead to toxic buildup. This can lead to digestive issues and you feeling fatigued. If this sounds like it could be you, it's a perfect time to invest a bit more energy into your health. This is the ideal time to clear out the toxins to help you feel lighter.
Drink Tons of Water
It's important to start the day with a glass of lemon water to help clean out the liver, prepare your body for digestion, and hydrate the body. Then continue to drink lots of water throughout the rest of the day.
Eat Three Meals a Day
Try to avoid snacking while doing a detox but if you do, make sure it is healthy and support the body. Pack your diet with liver-supporting foods and foods that help with digestion to detox.
Avoid Processed Foods
Foods such as gluten, dairy, added sugar, and processed foods are all hard on the immune system and make it harder for the body to detox. While trying to detox, skip on coffee and alcohol.
Eat a Light, Early Dinner
Your dinner should be the smallest meal of the day to help your body prepare for sleep. Try not to eat past 7 p.m. to be easy on your digestion with a light dinner.
Get Active
Now that the sun is out, it is time to get outside and get moving. A good sweat is a great way to get rid of toxins and get the body strong. Whether it be walking, running, dancing, doing yoga, hitting the sauna, or taking an Epsom salt bath. These are all great ways to support your detox.
Breathe Deep
Do breathing exercises to detox the mind and lungs. This is a form of meditation and yoga to focus solely on your breath. Try to start your day with four deep breaths and end your day with four deep breaths at night.
Sleep Early
While you are detoxing, it is important to get sufficient sleep to give your body time to reset. Sleeping is when the body can repair, so it is important to get proper down time.
While there is no official timeline for a detox, determine what works best for you and create a timeline. It's recommended to try a detox between 10 to 21 days at a time. If this is your first detox, ease into it and give yourself space to learn and adapt. This is a perfect time to give your health more attention and focus.
