Water: The Body's Natural Miracle

By Rebecca Waldron

I know this sounds crazy, but it’s true. Not only does water make up 50-75 percent of your body, but it is the lifeline of your bodily functions. Drinking water makes your skin glow, remain elastic, and helps to prevent premature aging. How does it do that? Glad you asked! If your skin is fully hydrated, it will have the ability to renew itself on a daily basis without drying out. I’ve been drinking about 72 ounces of water per day for several years and my skin looks like I’m still in my early 30s, even though I’m 40. I hope you will do the same thing and watch your skin transform.

Lose Weight Naturally

German researchers report that water consumption increases the rate at which people burn calories. These studies showed that drinking water increases the metabolism. This means that the more water you drink, the higher your metabolism will be. This is a great thing for those of us in our 30s and 40s whose metabolisms are slowing. It is so easy to drink water. I suggest you get a filter for your tap water. Many people’s water supply has chemicals in it that can damage their health. These might include excess fluoride, carbon, or even bleach. This is especially so if you use well water. The other benefit of drinking water is that you will find yourself eating less. Oftentimes, your body is craving water but it sends the same signals that seem like hunger. Try drinking a tall glass of cool water several minutes before eating and see how hungry you are afterward.

Sweat It Out

Have you ever walked or biked for exercise and wondered why you didn’t sweat? The more water you drink, the more you will sweat. If you’re dehydrated, your body will keep your water and you won’t sweat, but you may still overheat. You are basically depleting your body of one part of its fuel. Your body needs to sweat to cool down. If you aren’t sweating, there’s a problem.

Dehydration

A lot of people are dehydrated and don’t realize it. One way to test is to pinch the skin on the back of your hand. If it is slow to return to normal there’s definitely a problem. Other ways to tell is that you’re plain old thirsty. Once you’re thirsty, you’re dehydrated. Drink eight glasses of water per day to make sure you aren’t getting dehydrated, especially during the summer months, though the recommended amount is at least half your body wieght in ounces -- so if you weight 140 pounds, you should consume 70 ounces of water.

Water is truly the natural miracle. It can help us lose weight, stay healthy, look younger and feel better.
