4 Tips for Sticking With Fitness Goals

By Brandi Swieter

Fitness can be hard to stick with, especially for those who have just started out on their journey. It’s often easy to give up and give in rather than try to persevere and make it through. With a few tips, people can have an easier time sticking with their fitness goals and continuing their journey.

Only Weigh In Once a Week

Too many people put too much focus on the number on the scale. Although it’s important to reach a healthy weight, letting weight dictate your every move is not ideal. No one should weigh themselves every day; seeing little to no change, or even a gain, is sure to hinder progress. Instead, only weigh-in once a week and use the rest of the week to make improvements and try your best.

Make an 80 Percent Commitment

No one can give it their all 100 percent of the time. Saying you’ll eat 100 percent healthy foods or exercise every single day of the week is sure to lead to failure. Instead, make the commitment to give at least 80 percent. This could mean working out five or six days of the week instead of all seven, or making mostly healthy meals with a couple indulgences mixed in.

Try Something Fun

Doing the same workout routine day in and day out is not only boring, it’s also useless. The muscle groups being worked will no longer see results if no changes get made. It’s important to try something fun so it helps people stay motivated and willing to exercise in the first place. Working out with a friend, joining a dance class, taking a walk through the woods, or doing other outdoor fitness activities are all fun ways to exercise without feeling like you’re doing so.

Set Realistic Goals

People looking to get fit shouldn’t expect it to happen in just a week or two. It takes time and dedication to see real results and ensure they remain. Start out the fitness journey by setting realistic goals, such as losing just one pound a week or working out five days a week, and they will be much easier to achieve

Achieving goals can prove difficult, so it’s always best to keep a few tips in mind to make them easier to manage. By focusing more on the journey and less on the number on the scale, men and women can see much more benefit all around, as well as increased motivation as they progress.
