Aching for Avocados? Here's 4 Reasons to Eat More

By Brandi Swieter

The avocado trend has taken over, with people all over looking for new dishes to try with the fruit (yes, fruit!) added. Though the extra flavor avocados bring to recipes is all people are typically after, there are actually some great reasons to eat more of them. With health benefits galore, everyone should be joining in on the avocado trend.

They Improve Eye Health

Though carrots typically get classified as the most eye-healthy food, avocados have plenty of power when it comes to helping the eyes. Thanks to the many vitamins and nutrients found in avocados, the fruit works to improve sight and prevent cataracts from developing. They contain zeaxanthin and lutein that make this possible.

They Offer Plenty of Potassium

Bananas are said to be the potassium-rich source people should eat, but many fail to realize that avocados are even better. The green fruit contains a higher level of potassium than bananas do. As long as people use a full avocado in their meal, they’ll receive around 900 milligrams of the nutrient. A large banana doesn’t quite have 500 milligrams. Even half of an avocado will provide the potassium-rich benefits people are looking for.

They Aid in Digestion

A major difference exists between soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber is the type people want for their systems since it helps create better gut health. The good bacteria used for digestive health get fed by this fiber, helping them to keep the digestive tract working as intended. Avocados contain plenty of beneficial fiber that works to keep people healthy. It even aids in weight loss and keeps blood sugar levels in check, making it an ideal food for people with diabetes.

They Benefit the Heart

Many people avoid fats because they believe they are bad for the body. Good fats actually exist that can be beneficial, of which avocados are one of them. They contain healthy fats that are especially good for the heart. This is in part due to the oleic acid which is also found in olive olive. This acid works to fight certain cancers as well as reduce inflammation within the body. Those who eat avocados regularly should experience a healthier heart and far less pain than usual.

Enjoy avocados on the regular to gain these many benefits. Not only do these green fruits make an excellent addition to many dishes, but they also have some health advantages that make them even more worthwhile.
