Plan Your Holiday Vacation With These Tips in Mind
By Brandi Goodman
Lots of people head on vacation during the holidays. Whether they have family to see or simply want to take the time to get away, traveling can be good for the soul. It can also be a health hazard if you aren't careful. Plan your holiday vacation with these tips in mind so you can make the most of your time away.
Pack Light
Carrying a heavy bag could hurt your shoulders and back. Pack light and only take the essentials so you aren't struggling. This is especially important if you'll have to haul luggage through an airport. If you have to pack a heavy bag, use a backpack. You can utilize both shoulder straps so the weight is evenly distributed.
Bring Healthy Snacks
Traveling by car tends to take longer so chances are you'll have to eat along the way. Bring healthy snacks to enjoy rather than stopping for fast food. You may end up feeling slow and sluggish eating burgers and fries but can feel energized enjoying a fish sandwich on whole grain bread or a banana.
Get Plenty of Sleep
It may be tempting to stay awake late so you can get in as much fun as you can while you're away. Disrupting your sleep pattern, however, can really put a damper on your health. Poor sleep can lead to poor mood and have you feeling groggy all day. You'll enjoy your time more if you're well-rested and able to take on the day.
Find Time for Exercise
Sitting for hours on the way to your destination and then sitting in your hotel room as well won't be great for your body. You need to find time to get up and exercise if you hope to maintain your physical well-being while you're on vacation. Many hotels have gyms. Check it out and see if you can't get some walking time in on the treadmill before your plans for the day. Walk around the city exploring. If you're staying with family, make sure to get outside and enjoy a game together. There's always time for exercise if you make it.
