Chiropractic Tips for Sitting in the Stands
By Brandi Goodman
The summer and fall seasons are often filled with sports. When you're sitting in the stands cheering on your favorite team, you can quickly discover how uncomfortable the seating can be. With some chiropractic tips for sitting in the stands, you'll be able to cheer on your team in comfort and leave the game feeling great instead of sore.
Stretch Often
Before you head to the game, make sure to stretch your body out well so it's fully prepared for the occasion. After arriving, you'll need to stretch again since you most likely just sat in your car a while to make it there. As you're sitting throughout the game, stretch even more to keep your joints limber and make sure nothing gets locked up. Stretch out well yet again as you stand and make your way out of the arena, as well as once you're back home. Stretching helps to loosen your body, unlock your joints, and keep you from getting so uncomfortable.
Buy a Stadium Seat
Stadium seats are available for purchase from local grocery stores, online, and perhaps even at the venue where your game is located. These seats offer cushion and help add a layer of comfort between you and the bleachers. Many are a bottom cushion only which only helps to an extent. You need to find the back version that gives your spine some support as well.
Bring a Lumbar Support Cushion
Even with a stadium seat underneath and behind you, your back might still ache. Bring a lumbar support cushion as well that gets placed at your lower back. It helps to keep your spine straight and avoid the discomfort that often arises in this lower area. A rolled blanket or towel can also help.
Always Exhibit Proper Posture
Sometimes posture is to blame for the ache in your back. If your bottom starts to hurt and you find yourself shifting around to find a better spot, you're most likely going to end up slouching or leaning to the side. Failing to exhibit proper posture can cause an ache in your back. You should always take care to sit up straight and keep your spine in line if you have any hope of ending the game without discomfort.
Keep these chiropractic tips in mind as you head to your next sports game. You'll be able to enjoy the full game without your back aching. If you still feel any discomfort, be sure to head to your chiropractor the next time they're open for an assessment.
