Little Moments to Sneak in More Water

By Genevieve Cunningham

We all know that we’re supposed to drink more water. We’ve heard about the eight glasses a day or the rule of drinking half your bodyweight in ounces. We’ve heard it all. And yet most of us simply don’t get enough water during the day. Why is this? Is it because we’re too busy with sodas and tea? Is it because we can’t stand the thought of running to the restroom a hundred times a day? For many of us, it’s simply a matter of bad habit. We’re not used to drinking water all day, and so we just can’t seem to find enough time to slip more in. If this is you, take a look at these easy moments to sneak in a little more water every day.

On the Commute

Whether you’re driving or riding, you probably don’t have anything better to do during your commute. Fill up a water bottle and take it with you on the way as well as on the way home. By the time you get to your destination, you might have to immediately make a stop at the bathroom, but you’ll gain far more benefits than negative side effects. This is one of the easiest ways to sneak in some water … just make sure that you actually drink the water that you take with you, or else you’ll be no better off than where you started.

Every Time You Reach for Your Phone Out of Boredom

If we all chose to grab a sip of water every time we reached for our phones, we would definitely hit our water goals every day. Make it a point to associate boredom scrolls or text messages with a sip of water. Two things are likely to happen: You’re likely to get your fill of water very quickly, and you’re likely to stop reaching for your phone quite so often. It’s a win-win for your health!

Before and After You Eat

This is one of the best ways to get more water. It will help you get up to six glasses a day (before and after every meal), and it may also help you eat less. In fact, many people who are on a weight loss journey use this method to keep themselves full. If you’re not used to doing this, you may feel as though you’re being deprived of all that good food! But you’ll soon notice that it’s a small sacrifice with some huge benefits.

Why aren’t we all drinking more water? There are a million excuses that we all give, but it all boils down to dedication and willpower. Use these methods to get more water every day, and you’ll find some healthy benefits, possible some weight loss, and you’ll likely feel better than ever before.
