Effective Exercises That Feel Really Good

By Genevieve Cunningham

Working out can feel like such a chore. We know that we should just suffer through it. We know it’s good for our bodies and overall health. But does it have to be so hard? And does it have to hurt so much? Actually, the answer is no! Working out can actually feel really good … but you have to know what to do and what to avoid. If you’re looking for exercises that feel good, take a look at these three great options.

Swimming

There’s something about water that just feels so good. When we get in the water, our bodies feel lighter. This often takes pressure and tension off of the joints, which reduces pain and enhances range of motion. But working out in the water is still a challenge, as it increases the resistance on your muscles. If you need an exercise that reduces pain while strengthening the muscles and improving cardio, water aerobics or simple swimming may be just the ticket.

Yoga

Too many people associate yoga with pain. The stretching, the bending, the holding … it hurts, right? Honestly, it shouldn’t. While it might be challenging and make you feel sore the next day, it shouldn’t involve actual pain. In contrast, many people find that the stretching and bending and holding involved in yoga actually releases pent-up tension and reduces pain. The key is to modify when needed, rest when appropriate, and stick with it!

Dance

Dance involves a lot of stretching and twisting and turning, all of which can make the body feel really good. But this form of exercise feels good in a different way. How? It’s fun! Dance often feels good mentally and emotionally. It boosts our mood and improves general perception about our bodies and health. And of course, dancing is incredibly challenging. It can sculpt and tone your body like nothing else. If you want something that makes you happy and excited while still being challenging, dance is a great place to begin.

If you want your exercise to feel good both while you’re doing it and after it’s completed, it’s entirely possible to make it happen. Just make sure to choose the appropriate workouts. These three exercises are great places to start. With a little planning and an open mind, you can love your workout and the skin you’re in before you know it.
