Healthy Habits for a Healthy Weight

So many people struggle with losing excess pounds, but teaching your children certain lifestyle habits that help to maintain a healthy weight can set the foundation for lifelong wellness and can help them avoid the nasty cycle that often comes with dieting when they become adults. Whether it's a few pounds here or a lot of pounds there, many people will usually find themselves turning to one bad diet after the next -- and unfortunately, that usually only ever leads to temporary results. So give your children the advantage and reduce their risk of falling into that vicious cycle by teaching healthy habits today!

Excess weight has been linked to chronic diseases, joint disorders, immobility, depression, and severe pain, so it is critical that you establish lifelong, healthy lifestyle habits with your children when they are young. Here are five suggestions on how to do so!

Set reasonable limits on the amount of time spent sitting watching television shows, playing video games, and using other electronic devices, and be sure to set aside enough time for them to exercise every day and get enough sleep.
  • Eat those fruits and vegetables - Eating your fruits and vegetables is for more than just vitamins and minerals, it's also a great way to get your fiber! Fiber helps to keep you from overeating because you end up feeling fuller, longer. And all that is required is just five servings a day! It really couldn't be any easier or tastier!
  • Don't skip breakfast - A healthy breakfast of lean protein, oats, and fruit is the perfect way to kick-start your metabolism and fill your body with energy for the day ahead! It also helps to curb those mid-morning cravings that can lead to poor snack choices and added calories.
