How to Have a Successful Semester With Online School

By Donna Stark

A lot of young adults have returned to college over the last several weeks and many of them have been disappointed to see that most, if not all, of their classes have switched from in-person to online. And while that may bring the good news of being able to stay in their pajamas all day, it still is a huge disruption to what they expected college life to be like. However, all is not lost. There are plenty of ways to keep the motivation and joy alive. Take a look at a few suggestions below on how to stay healthy, happy, and on track this semester.

Stay Involved

It's easy to skip the Zoom classes when the lesson for the day was emailed to you, but it's important for your mental and emotional health to communicate with others. Make an effort to show up in class even if it's just on a screen, ask questions, and engage with your classmates and professor. You should also consider joining the scheduled video call study sessions.

Get Dressed

It's time to ditch those pajamas no matter how enticing the thought of wearing them all day is. Getting back to a normal morning routine can encourage healthier habits, reduce stress, and increase productivity. It may even boost your energy too which is always helpful at school.

Create a Healthy Environment

If you are going to be online for most of the day, you will want to make sure the environment you are in is a healthy one. Having a quiet, clean, and productive workspace is key to success so take some extra time to set one up that you love. Make sure all of the required technology is near you, personalize the space with your favorite plants or pictures, and invest in a great office chair.

Step Outside

Don't forget, the sun is going to miss seeing your face too, so schedule some time to step outside every day. This would be a great time to get some physical activity in as well. Staying active while filling up on Vitamin D can reduce the risk of weight gain, boost your immune system, and improve sleep. It can also provide a good opportunity to catch up with friends.

The College Life

Life at school should always be a great experience but it will only be what you make of it, so choose your actions and behaviors wisely. Treat yourself well, get enough rest, and stay involved so this semester can be one of the best!
