4 Basic Tips for Maintaining Your Health
By Brandi Goodman
The fall and winter seasons are when sickness is at its worst. More and more start experiencing symptoms of the cold or flu. With a few basic tips in mind, you can do your best to maintain your health through this cold season and keep yourself from experiencing such severe symptoms of illness.
Layer Up When You're Outside
When you plan on being outside, it's important that you layer yourself up. Wear a full outfit under a coat, hat, and gloves so you can keep your body warm. If need be, you can remove an item or layer and still maintain your warmth with all you have on.
Wash Your Hands (And Then Wash Them Again)
Germs spread far too easily. Assume every surface you touch has germs on it, and be sure to wash your hands when you come into contact with anything. Then, make sure you're washing your hands again when you touch something else. The more frequently you wash, the less chance you have of spreading germs from one surface to the next.
Get More Sleep
Poor sleep can lead to stress and sickness. You need to be sure you're getting even more sleep than usual so you can stay healthy and feeling well. Fail to get adequate rest and you could end up with more severe sickness symptoms.
If you're having trouble drifting off because it's so cold, try taking a warm bath to help bring heat to your body. You can also sleep in socks and wear gloves so you can avoid feeling so frozen.
Add More Vegetables and Fruits to Your Daily Diet
Vegetables and fruits contain the nutrients and vitamins your body needs to fight off illness. Vitamin C and antioxidants are especially important in this fight, so be sure you're choosing foods high in both. Apples, sweet potatoes, leafy greens, and broccoli are good sources.
On the other hand, you want to avoid processed foods and junk that can be harmful to your body. You're more likely to feel unwell if your diet is high in these types of foods.
Fighting off illness and keeping yourself healthy and well during the cold months can be difficult. Always keep these tips in mind to have a better time at accomplishing your goal. If you still feel a bit under the weather, you can visit a chiropractor to see if an adjustment will help.
