How Positive Thinking Influences Fitness Results

By Brandi Swieter

Negative thoughts tend to lead to self-sabotaging behaviors. People believe they will never achieve the fitness results they want so they decide to consume whatever food they desire. They skip workouts, overeat, and put themselves down for doing the wrong things, leading to a cycle of negativity and no results. Positive thinking has a better outcome, influencing fitness results toward what a person was hoping to achieve rather than making him stray from them.

The Power of Positive Thinking

It has long been said that thinking positively can prove powerful if done right. Forget the negative feelings and start to believe you can do it to make it come true. Those who regularly tell themselves they can make their goals is more likely to actually meet them, staying motivated and be prepared for the tasks at hand. Positivity is empowering and contagious. If the glass is always seen as half-full, it can never be empty.

Set Achievable Goals

One of the biggest mistakes people make when starting a fitness routine is setting unachievable goals that will never get met. Doing so makes it hard to stay positive when no results are shown week after week. Set achievable goals instead. When people keep meeting their smaller objectives, it’s easier to stay positive and know anything can be accomplished. Only shoot for losing one or two pounds per week (instead of 10), or set a daily workout goal of 30 minutes. These are easier to meet and will leave people successful.

Give Attention to the Positive Things

Some people have a hard time recognizing positive attributes. Rather than a person being hard on themselves for eating one slice of pizza, they should be proud they didn’t consume a second slice that they so easily could have in the past. Perhaps someone put less creamer and sugar in their coffee than they normally would have, or they drink six full cups of water throughout the day instead of only the few they’re used to. All of these things should get attention and get recognized as positive. It is even ideal to write them down so people can look back at all the little changes they’ve made throughout their journey.

Staying positive throughout a fitness journey is the only way to ensure results are achieved. No goals will ever get met if people think negatively and assume the worst about themselves. To help stay on the right path, people hoping to start a new fitness routine should seek the guidance of a doctor of chiropractic from The Joint Chiropractic. The doctor may be able to offer some helpful tips on what to do and ensure the body is properly aligned and ready to start working out efficiently.
