5 Tips for Staying Healthy in the Fall Season

By Brandi Swieter

The fall season is when most people start to see sickness set in both at school and in the workplace. With people in such close proximity to one another, multiple households are bound to experience illness when the temperatures drop and the sniffles begin. Follow these five tips for staying healthy and the fall season will go much smoother for the family.

Consume More Fruits

While everyone knows it’s good to eat fruits and vegetables, not everyone quite understands why. These nutritional items contain various vitamins that help keep the body healthy and functioning efficiently. Fruits are especially important during the cold season because many contain Vitamins A and C. Vitamin C that comes from oranges and grapefruits, in particular, work best to stave off colds and keep the body healthy.

Get More Rest

Once the school year begins, people are less likely to get as much rest as they need. Getting some more sleep can help keep colds and other illnesses at bay, so everyone should be sure to get as much as possible. Enjoy a full eight hours of sleep at night and catch up on some Zzz’s on the weekend if any got missed during the week.

Carry Hand Sanitizer

Too many sick people come into work and school without worrying how their illness may impact others. They often touch things without washing their hands and spread their germs easily. To avoid this, people should wash their hands as often as possible. It isn’t always feasible to head to the bathroom every time a person wants to wash their hands. The next best option is to carry a small bottle of hand sanitizer around so it can get applied any time it’s needed. Employees can even keep a bottle at their desks.

Bundle Up

The weather often stays nice during the fall months, making people think it’s OK to continue to wear shorts, T-shirts, and sandals. While it may be fine if the temperature truly remains in the 70s, once it dips below people should consider bundling up and wearing more appropriate clothes for the season. Tennis shoes, pants, and at least a long-sleeve shirt should get worn, along with a jacket anytime it feels cold.

Drink Tea With Lemon and Honey

Lemon, honey, and tea are three possibilities when it comes to fighting off colds. Each of them help the body and offers a nutritious and refreshing alternative to other drinks. All natural ingredients work best.
