Avoiding Aches During Your Autumn Activities
By Brandi Goodman
Raking leaves, clearing the gutters, storing patio furniture, and more activities are common in the autumn. Much of the outdoor chores you need to accomplish during the fall season leads to aches and pains if you aren't careful. With some tips in mind, you can avoid aches during your autumn activities and be sure to get through them with more ease.
Maintain Your Posture
Leaning over as you attempt to complete your activities will prove harsh on your back. You shouldn't be bending, twisting, leaning, or hunching in any capacity. Maintain your posture and keep your back straight if you want to get through your task without a pain in your back.
Choose Your Tools Carefully
The tools you use, even down to the rake, all play a major role in determining whether or not you'll experience pain during your chores. If your rake or other tools are too short, you'll be hunching over to use them. If they're too long, you may find yourself bent awkwardly attempting to maneuver it. You need items that fit your height well so it doesn't strain your body to use them. You can also get tools with grips if you experience pain in your hands.
Don't Do Everything at Once
It may seem like a good idea to get all of your outdoor yard work accomplished in one day so you never have to worry about it again. This will actually do a lot of harm. Pushing your body past its limits will leave you feeling sore and fatigued. It may take a few days to recover. It's better to space out your tasks over at least a few days. Get a little done here and there with breaks in-between so your body isn't overworked and left completely sore.
Time Your Tasks
You may have a particular time of day in which your body feels the best. Maybe you can't get up right away in the morning and start working because your joints are incredibly stiff. Perhaps you feel best in the morning after you've rested all night. Time out when to do your tasks based on when your body feels best. You'll be more likely to get through them easier without discomfort.
Your autumn activities don't have to hurt. Get through them easier with some tips in mind. With all you have to accomplish, pain is the last thing you need to worry about.
