Motivate Your Mind Using Examples From Others

By Brandi Goodman

The winter season can put a damper on many people's moods. Seasonal Affective Disorder, or SAD, begins around the holidays for some. Keep your mind strong and motivated by using examples from others. Doing so will help to combat some of the depressive symptoms you may feel around this time.

Check Out Blogs Dedicated to Mental Health

Mental health should be a topic everyone reads about. If you are especially struggling, check out blogs dedicated to mental health. You'll be able to get lots of ideas on how to cope and see stories from others going through the same struggles as you. Use these as your guide toward improving your own mental well-being.

Find Support

Support from others going through the same things as you can be a major help. Many people believe they are the only ones struggling. The truth is, there are lots of people out there who understand how difficult living in your own mind can sometimes be. Find support from local groups if your area has them or search online. Even Facebook offers support groups for various mental illnesses, struggles, and even survivors of suicide. You can find encouragement, support, advice, and more. Read the stories of others and share your own story once you're ready.

Let Their Goals Inspire Yours

You don't have to set the same exact goal that others have. Let their goals be inspiration for ones that best suit you. If someone suggests going for a walk through your neighborhood to get some exercise, you can choose to walk in a nearby park instead. Maybe they go to a water aerobics class. You can choose to join another fitness group that you'll feel more comfortable at or even just work out alone if you feel uncomfortable starting in a group setting.

Find Solace in Friends and Family

Turning to strangers may be out of your comfort zone. Find solace in your family and friends instead. You don't necessarily need someone who completely understands your struggles. You just don't need someone who will be there to listen and let you vent your frustrations. This can be a huge help in itself. Spending time laughing with friends or family can be beneficial as well, helping you to get your mind off of the stresses of life and have a chance to unwind for a while.

Getting motivated to get the help you need can be a struggle in its own. Take inspiration from others and use any means necessary, be it blogs, support groups, or otherwise, to boost your mental health. The process may be daunting but it can aid in your journey toward better health in the long run.
