Why Fitness Resolutions Should Be on Your List
By Brandi Goodman
Anyone looking to improve themselves -- more specifically their health -- in the new year should start by making fitness resolutions. Everyone should have these types of goals on their list because physical activity is necessary for optimal health and wellness. There's a lot of benefits that moving more can bring.
Bone and Muscle Strengthening
Your bones and muscles get weaker as you age. Keep them strong by staying fit. If you're sitting slumped on the couch day after day you're eventually going to lose your muscle mass and bone strength altogether. You won't be able to do much without feeling sore and fatigued. Get daily exercise so your body can continue to operate as intended.
Weight Loss
Weight loss is a common New Year's resolution. Eating better is going to help tremendously, but it won't be enough on its own. You also need to get more exercise if you hope to lose and then maintain your weight. You need to work off the calories you're eating and move your body if you hope to keep your weight in check.
Injury Reduction
The chance of injury gets reduced in those who are physically fit. You're less likely to trip or get hurt while performing exercises if your body is strong and flexible and you have good balance. Work on your posture and stability with core strengthening exercises to help yourself the most.
Quality of Life Improvement
There's a higher chance of developing diseases and illnesses in those who don't exercise. Your heart has to work hard to function. Your body can't fight sickness well. You may experience poor quality of life. Add fitness to your plans and watch your quality of life improve. You'll decrease your chances of heart disease, diabetes, and even certain cancers when you exercise regularly and improve your overall health.
Mood Boosted
Exercise releases endorphins. If you're feeling down getting some exercise can help to boost your mood and make you feel better. No, it won't cure whatever's impacting your mental health -- but it can help to relieve some of the stress you're feeling because of it and clear your mind for a while. A walk through the wilderness is a great option since you'll get exercise while also taking in the beauty of the world around you. It lets you know there's so much more to the world than what you're feeling in that moment.
Fitness resolutions should be on everyone's goal list. You want to keep your body strong and working well if you hope to be as healthy as possible. Make some fitness resolutions that you know you can follow and see how your body and mind benefit.
