Summer Picnics Are the Best!
By Donna Stark
Picnics are one of the best ways to relax from a busy week, enjoy what your local towns have to offer, and engage in some of your favorite outdoor activities. They are also the perfect way to take advantage of the beautiful summer weather! But if picnicking is new to you, it may seem overwhelming to plan. After all, you need to decide on what foods and beverages to serve, where to go, and what kind of entertainment, if any, to bring. Fortunately, it's not as difficult as you may think. Here are some suggestions on how to plan the perfect picnic for everyone involved!
Choose the Right Food
The first thing to figure out is whether you are going to be packing perishable foods. If you are, you need to follow the recommended food safety guidelines. Pack your food in a cooler and be sure to put it back into the cooler as soon as you are finished serving yourself and those with you. You may also want to pack as many healthy items as you can, so load up on raw vegetables and hummus, fruit, and green salads.
Pick the Perfect Destination
You may not be the only ones heading out for a picnic, so keep that in mind when deciding on a destination, especially if you are expecting to use one of the standing grills at your local park or want to rent a canoe after you eat. If the crowds don't bother you, the next thing you need to consider is the type of activity you want to do after the meal. If you want to go hiking, a picnic in the woods makes sense, or if you want to let the kids run around and play, a local park with a playground may end up being more suitable.
Pack Some Games
For many people, a picnic isn't complete unless there is a little bit of friendly competition mixed in. With something as simple as a Frisbee or a badminton set, it is easy to get smiles on the faces of everyone involved! It also turns a meal into a wonderful family event.
Enjoying the Perfect Summer Picnic
All you need for the perfect summer picnic is a blanket, some delicious food, a few games, and your friends and family! So, go ahead and start the planning. Summer isn't summer unless a picnic is involved and it's time for everyone to eat, play, and have fun!
