Although there are some who may believe there is little to no preparation needed, this is not the case. Health and wellness experts insist that proper preparation is vital when trying to get ready to race. A few things you should consider as you prepare for the big day include:

  • Choose healthy eating 
  • Hydrate daily
  • Get plenty of sleep

Anyone considering a race should start planning to train today. Getting your body in shape and ready for the race of your choice is no simple task. Instead, it can take months (or longer) to get ready both physically and mentally to participate. While you may want to hit the track and jog as much as you can, slow and simple steps are best. Choose Healthy Eating 

What you choose to consume can either help you prepare or hamper your preparation. Fitness professionals say that cutting soda, sugar, and other junk foods from your diet and help the body better prepare to tackle your race and meet your goals. Hydrate Daily 

Hydration should be a priority every day, especially as you prepare to take on a race. Consuming plenty of water can help keep the muscles at their top performance, as well as fight off cramping. It is advised that you consume at least half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. 

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep plays a key role in helping the body prepare for grueling tasks, including races. Without the proper amount of rest the body may struggle to find the energy needed to complete a workout or race. Fitness experts admit that getting the proper amount of sleep is vital when getting ready (and training) for a big race. It is said that the average adult should get at least six hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. However, you may need much more than this. Know how much you need and start making it a priority today.
