Avocados are good for your vision – they may even protect it. Avocados are rich in zeaxanthin and lutein, which are antioxidants that help your retina to stay healthy. The retina is the back of the eye and keeping it healthy will help to keep your vision going well into old age.
Avocados may even help age-related eye problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts – so try to fit a few slices into your lunch or dinner to keep those peepers peeping well into old age.
A Caped Cancer Crusader
Some of the extracts from avocados have been found to stop or even kill the growth of precancerous cells responsible for oral cancer and may just have similar effects on other types of cancers. This may be due to the avocado’s combination of nutrients that are unique to it, such as Vitamin E, Vitamin C and folate. Ohio State University published a study that found people absorbed four-and-a-half times more lycopene from tomatoes when avocado was part of the equation.
