Headaches You’ve Never Heard Of!

By Sara Butler

Nearly everyone has heard of tension headaches, migraine headaches, and cluster headaches, but there are a few types of headaches out there that many people have never heard of. According to the National Institutes of Health, 45 million Americans get regular headaches, with a few suffering from some uncommon types. Here are some headaches you may have never heard of but might actually be getting!

Exertion Headaches

After exercise, laughing, sneezing or any other type of physical activity, if you get a headache then it may just be an exertion headache. This is due to the fact that some activities cause the pressure of the fluid surrounding your spine to increase. The pressure can then cause pain that usually passes within just a few minutes. These headaches aren’t concerning, though, so if you experience them don’t worry too much.

Hypertension Headaches

If you have high blood pressure it can cause headaches. You have to remember that when your blood pressure is up it increases pressure all over your body, including your brain. This can restrict the flow of blood to your brain causing a headache. This type of a headache is usually worse in the morning and then gets better over the course of the day. But, to control this type of a headache you need to control your blood pressure, so you need to consult a medical professional about it immediately.

Giant Cell Arteritis

This type of a headache produces a jabbing or burning pain in your head and as of right now no one really knows what causes it. What is known is it is linked to inflammation and usually afflicts people over the age of 60. You may also experience pain around your ears when chewing with this type of a headache and about one-third of people also experience vision disturbances. This type of a headache is very serious and measures need to be taken to help get the inflammation under control before permanent damage is done, so if you think you may have this type of a headache consult a medical professional as soon as possible.

Headaches are an unfortunate part of life for nearly everyone at some point, and they can be caused by a variety of things. If you suffer from headaches and they are impacting the quality of your life in any way, discuss it with your chiropractor during your next visit to The Joint Chiropractic.
