Make Sure You Make It to the Gym!
By Sara Butler
Don’t be embarrassed if you’re paid for a gym membership more than once and didn’t make it as much as you wanted to, if you made it at all. Everyone has been there. You know that you’ll feel better by working out regularly but getting your body to the gym can be a feat all its own. Here are some tips to help you make the gym a part of your daily routine instead -- easily!
Find the Right Gym
Finding the right gym for you is easier said than done, but don’t let that deter you. If you can find the right gym, then it’ll do wonders for your motivation. Especially if you’re surrounded by people at that gym who you feel supported by instead of feeling as if you don’t belong.
Don’t just go for the first gym you see. Instead, ask some important questions such as:
- Is this gym for beginners?
- Does it offer classes you may be interested in?
- Do both men and women go there and are you comfortable with that?
- Is it in a convenient location?
Before you put any money down, take a tour and get a feel for the place. That will help you decide if you’ve found your forever gym.
Plan Ahead
Once you’ve found a gym, then make a plan to get there. Detailed planning is often the key to any success, so schedule your workouts and stick to your schedule. Write down what you want to do each day so it’s clear what you want to accomplish for the week. Make your gym time like an appointment you can’t miss.
Stick to Simple Goals
Sure, you may dream of finishing an Ironman, but every Ironman has been where you are now -- you have to start somewhere. It’s OK to have larger goals but take a step back from them and think about a few simple things you can do along the way to your larger fitness and health goals. It can be something as simple as changing into your workout clothes when you get off work. Chances are, taking that step will help you get to the gym and finish the workout.
You can make it to the gym if you plan it right! Use these tips to help you get on the right track and make time for fitness in your life.
