3 Ways to Lower Your Stress Every Weekend

By Genevieve Cunningham

Stress. This is not a thing that anyone in the world can escape. Whether it's from family, from personal expectation, or from work, stress is definitely going to be a part of life. Unfortunately, when we have too much stress, it often harms our health in a big way. In order to protect your health long-term and to live a much happier and more productive life, take a look at these tips for lowering your stress every weekend.

Spend Time Outdoors

There's just something about the great outdoors that is calm and relaxingto the body and mind. Multiple studies show that when people spend time outside, it lowers their stress, calms the heart rate, and improves quality of life. If the weather permits, get outside at least once every weekend. Breathe in some fresh air, get a little sunshine, and you're sure to feel better than ever come Monday morning.

Exercise

Exercise is important every day of the week, but on the weekends it might be a little bit easier since you won't have to go to work. Even if Saturday is the only day that you're able to exercise, go ahead and take advantage of it. Get in a nice long walk, go for a swim, join a class, or go for a run. Do something physical that gets your heart pumping and your mind clear. You may find that after your exercise session is over, your stress is significantly lowered and then stays that way for the remainder of the weekend.

Do Something Fun

The weekends are a great time to try something fun. Whether it's an old pastime, like camping, or something you've never tried before, like bungee jumping, doing something fun often lower stress levels in a significant way. Choose something that you would like to try, take a friend or family member with you, and enjoy yourself for at least one evening of the weekend. Though this may not seem like a big deal, it may help manage your stress throughout the entire week.

Stress is not something to play around with or to ignore. Too much stress can be dangerous to overall health, both mentally and physically. Use these tips to help manage your stress every weekend for a healthier, happier, low-stress life from here on out.
