3 Reasons to Stop Drinking Caffeine Every Day

By Genevieve Cunningham

Caffeine is a constant in most people's diets. We consume it every day, most of us doing so first thing in the morning. It's so prevalent that we don't even believe we can do without it. We feel as though we need it to wake up and carry on with our day. And if we don't get it? It definitely shows! But is this little habit really as harmless as it seems? Or is there a danger in our ongoing caffeine consumption? If you want to live your healthiest life, it might be time to cut back on this pick-me-up addiction. If you're a caffeine lover who wants to take your health to the next level, take a look at these reasons why you should stop drinking caffeine every day starting right now.

Caffeine is a Low-Key Addiction

There's no doubt that we get addicted to caffeine. It's perhaps a more low-key addiction; it's not illegal and it doesn't cause massive withdrawals, but it's still an addiction. You may notice that you get a headache or feel particularly sluggish without it. Addiction in general is just not good for you. It means the body and mind are dependent on something outside of your control. What happens if you can't get it? What happens if you're forced to cut back? Your body and health will suffer. It's better to end the addiction on your own terms and stop relying on caffeine to get up and moving.

Caffeine Messes With Natural Energy

Caffeine certainly helps to create energy, but it also messes with your natural energy. If we consume it all day long, it messes with our body's ability to wake itself up and to put itself to sleep. We interrupt the natural cycles, and as a result, we believe that we "just can't sleep" or "can't function without caffeine." But neither of these are true. The truth is that if we focused on quality sleep instead of caffeine, our bodies would begin to regulate themselves. And finding this natural energy leads to energy that actually lasts.

Caffeine Can Damage Your Body

Caffeine can bring literal damage to your body, especially if you consume large amounts. Caffeine consumption can cause restlessness, dizziness, anxiety, rapid heart rate, headaches, dehydration, and insomnia. We don't want to live with any of these side effects. They can get in the way of living a healthy, happy life. Luckily, if caffeine is the culprit, it may not take anything more than cutting it out of your life to feel better right away.

Whether you consume massive amounts of caffeine or not, it's definitely something to be knowledgeable about. You need to know about the potential side effects, and more importantly, you need to know how it affects your body specifically. Once you know, you can plan your diet accordingly. Is caffeine the worst thing ever? No, it's not. But it's something to consume with both awareness and caution. And for many, it may be something that needs to be cut out of your life for your own health and well-being.
