Enjoy the Holidays in a Healthy Way
By Rachel Shouse
The holidays are supposed to be a time of giving, love, family, and friends. While this year probably looks different for many of you, that doesn't mean the spirit of the holidays is dead. You'll probably still cook a little something and spend time with your family. That being said, there are still certain things you should pay attention to in order to prevent further issues. Now is surely not the time for more problems. Keeping up with your exercise routine, keeping as close to a healthy diet as you can, and learning new creative ways to communicate with your loved ones are great ideas to help you out this holiday season.
Reasonable Expectations and Your Exercise Routine
Being reasonable with yourself is something I hope you've been doing for the past year or so. During times like these, you need to be gracious with yourself. That being said, it's also important for you to keep as close to your normal habits as possible.
If you find it to be too much to keep up with your normal routine, pick which activities you like doing the most. This time of year can be stressful and you shouldn't expect yourself to do everything as you normally would. You may still have time to work out everyday but you may decide to just cut it a bit shorter than normal. Regardless, it's going to benefit you in the long run.
Tips to Staying on a Diet During the Holidays
Diet is a rather vague word. What I mean by staying on a diet is really just sticking close to the healthy habits you have now. It's probably not the best idea to put yourself on a new rigorous diet right before you're about to be surrounded by deliciousness.
One way to avoid overeating during the holidays is done by hanging out with your friends and family away from the food. It's good for us to gather and enjoy a meal, but you're more likely to keep eating if you're by the food the entire time.
Learning New Ways to Communicate With Your Loved Ones
As mentioned before, your holidays may very well look different this year. If you're looking for some ideas on how to still talk to your people this season, you've come to the right place.
There are multiple phone apps that let you make phone calls over your wireless internet if you need a cheaper way to make long distance calls. I'm sure you've heard of Zoom, Google meets, and many other video chat type of programs/apps. Those are your best options to see your family and/or friends, face-to-face, this year.
