Bad Slip and Fall Injuries

By Madhusudhan Tammisetti

If you fall or slip, you may damage many different parts of the body. Some of the injuries may not be apparent right away. A ruptured ligament or a fracture may be mistaken for a small sprain or a leg sore. It's important to get the help of a chiropractor as soon as possible after a slip or fall.

Soft Tissue Damage

This is typically the most difficult kind of injury to diagnose correctly. They may also be one of the most painful types of injuries. Your body feels painful after a fall, even if the injuries aren't apparent. They may not show up for many days or weeks after you've been injured. These injuries, if left untreated, may cause persistent pain and are a common source of additional injuries as you cope with the pain by overusing and injuring another body part.

Cuts and Bruises

Although the cuts and bruises you received when you slipped and fell may seem terrible, they are often less dangerous than the ailments mentioned below. Bruises on the head, hips, arms, and legs are not uncommon. These bruises, though, aren't always small. Cuts and bruising often conceal more severe injuries under the surface. It's usually a good idea to check them out. Taking photos of the injuries is also a good practice. If you decide to litigate, this material may be very helpful.

Spinal Cord Injuries

One of the serious injuries you may get in a slip and fall is a spinal cord injury. When you fall on your back, the spine typically takes the brunt of the stress. A slipped disc, a chipped vertebra, nerve injury, or permanent damage to the spinal cord may result in complete or partial paralysis. Even if it doesn't seem to be severe, it's best to get chiropractic care if you fall hard on the back when you slip or fall.

Fractured or Bruised Tailbone

You may have experienced the pain of falling back upon the buttocks. However, if the impact of the fall is severe enough, your tailbone may be bruised or fractured. While this may seem to be a playful injury, it's not funny for the individual who has a bruised or fractured tailbone. Sitting, standing, going to the nature calls, and even sleeping are all tough tasks. In many situations, you may need to bring a soft cushion with you, whether it's to work or a restaurant so that you can sit comfortably.

Chiropractic Care

After a proper diagnosis, a chiropractor may ask you to take complete rest until the injuries subside. A massage on the affected area may also help relieve pain from fall or slip injuries. The chiropractor may advise you to apply ice or heat packs on the painful region. It may help decrease the pain.
