Facing Intermittent Sciatica? See Your Chiropractor
I have known a couple of people with sciatica. Sometimes I would find them smiling, and sometimes not. When they scowled I knew sciatica was back and things were not good.
What happens with sciatica?
Each one has a story of strong pain interspersed with periods of almost normal, no pain at all. One lady, who was very active and very involved with her job and her family and her grandkids, was simply at a loss when sciatica pain started to set in and call the shots.
She was a do-er and believed with a little effort most obstacles could be overcome. Usually she had found she was right, but in the case of sciatica it was not so easy. The more stressed over the situation, and determined she became, the more the sciatica hung in there hounding her every move.
She tried to cope with over the counter pain relievers and periods of rest. That helped a little, but as soon as she tried to jump back into her regular routine the sciatica came roaring back, full strength.
Visiting the Chiropractor
This lady had a chiropractor that she had visited over the years for neck pain, so she returned for some new answers. The chiropractor started with a spinal adjustment to evaluate the health of her spine, and then retraced medical history and reviewed her current activity schedule.
Ways to work on the problem.
Then a succession of visits followed to work on the problem. Gradually she started to get some pain relief and was able to be more active. Chiropractor visits coupled with some new relaxation exercises and a slight slowing down of her schedule started to smooth things out. Along the way she learned that the more stressed she became over the situation, the worse it tended to be. But when she relaxed, things improved.
Working with her doctor and the chiropractor my friend was able to use treatment, home relaxation exercises, and a new attitude to slow down a little and succeed in maintaining her life. Soon she was close to her normal work schedule and busy at home with her family and visits with her grandkids.
If you are running into similar challenges make an appointment with your doctor and your chiropractor to get answers and find ways to achieve relief.
