Tips for Safely Getting that Summer Glow

Summer days are on the horizon, and if you’re anything like me, you really can’t wait. Snow cones, the beach, long nights, and beautiful summery skin are all the parts that we look forward to. Of course, the summer brings a new piece of health that we should pay attention to as well. Our skin. With the sun beating down on us, skin health becomes more important than ever. Luckily, it’s possible to get that summer glow and still maintain the health of your skin. Check out these tips for keeping your skin healthy all summer long.

Get in the Sun (With Caution)

I know there are a lot of scare tactics out there about spending too much time in the sun. Age spots, wrinkles, and cancer are among the most common problems that can occur from sun exposure. The sun is actually really good for you! It lifts moods and boosts energy levels. It also provides our bodies with some very important Vitamin D. The key is to get the sun in a healthy moderation. For example, slather on some sunscreen before hitting the beach. If you want a summer tan, lower the SPF a tad, but don’t skip it! It doesn’t have to be SPF 50 to give you protection, but you should certainly choose the right protection for your skin.

Wear Glasses

Sunglasses not only look good, but they provide some much needed protection for your eyes and skin. The sun can be harsh on your sight, but sunglasses lessen the glare. Squinting, which happens in the sun, can also give you wrinkles around the eyes. Sunglasses can prevent the squinting, which can then help ward off the wrinkles around the eyes.

Carry an Umbrella

If you want some sun, but also want some protection, try carrying around an umbrella. Umbrellas can provide some shade when there otherwise is none. That way, you can enjoy the sunshine, but you can get out of it quickly when it becomes too much. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you can skip the sunscreen. It just adds a layer of protection to keep your skin healthy.
