When Exercise Isn't Enough: More Tips for Weight Loss

By Genevieve Cunningham

Exercise. This is a word that makes us cringe, gets us excited, and makes us sweat all at once. For some, it’s the best time of the day, and for others, it’s a necessary evil. Either way, exercise is or should be a staple in your life. But what happens when exercise isn’t providing results? What happens when we’re exercising to lose weight, and yet the scale just won’t budge? Talk about frustration. Instead of getting mad and giving up on your fitness journey, take a look at these other tips to get the weight loss train moving.

Alter Your Diet

Your diet is more important than exercise, at least as far as weight loss is concerned. Sometimes, even when we think we’re doing exceptionally well with our menu, there are areas that could use improvement. If you’re working out and sticking with it, but your weight won’t budge, reevaluate what’s going into your mouth. Are you eating enough green veggies? Too much processed food? Too much sugar? How is your calorie intake? Making small adjustments in your diet is sometimes all it takes to get the weight melting off.

Adjust Your Water in a Big Way

Water is boring. Water doesn’t have any flavor. Water makes my stomach hurt. The excuses are endless. But the truth is that water is key to weight loss, improving overall health, and keeping you focused. Without it, health suffers as a whole. In the midst of your weight loss journey, take an honest look at your water intake. Are you drinking enough? Are you drinking more soda and coffee and juice than water? Water should be your A-1 main beverage, and it should far outweigh any other beverage if you really want to make weight loss happen.

Make Yourself Move

You’re exercising every day, and still the weight is sticking like glue. Ask yourself: What am I doing with the rest of my time? If you’re working out, but all of your other time is spent lounging on the couch, it’s still possible that you’re not  burning enough calories. Get moving in your everyday life. Get active after work and engage in active hobbies. The more you move, the more you’ll burn, so get moving for more success with your weight loss goals.

Sometimes it’s not enough to just exercise. Weight loss is a journey, a process, and a lifestyle. If you’re not losing like you want, use these tips to get your fitness moving in the right direction, and your life moving toward the healthiest lifestyle yet.
