3 Exercises to Tone the Legs

Nothing looks better than toned, tanned legs in the summer. We all want them, but only a few actually do what it takes to have them. That’s mostly because working the legs is really tough work! It is definitely not for the faint of heart as it requires strength and perseverance. If you are ready to join the few and get some great legs for summer, check out these leg specific exercises that will have you tone and slim in no time.

Squats

To tone legs, you must squat. There unfortunately isn’t any other way around it. Luckily, there are a lot of different kind of squats to help keep it interesting. Regular squats, added weights, wide stance squats, squats with kettlebells...the list could go on and on. The important part about squats is the form. If your form is off, you are not getting any good from the squat. To ensure that your form is spot on, watch a video or ask a  fitness professional for help getting started.

Lunges

This is another exercise that most people despise, but it really is necessary for good legs. Lunges have a lot of variety as well, so again, it doesn’t have to get boring. Standing lunges, walking lunges, lunges with dumbbells, and curtsy lunges are just a few of the options out there. Each kind of lunge works a different part of the leg, so adding a mix of all of them from time to time is really good for toning the leg from top to bottom.

Wall Sits

Think of these as planks for your derriere. Wall sits make you hold a particular move for a length of time. You have to tighten your leg muscles and then hold them there. You’ll think at first that it will be easy, but you’ll quickly realize that these are really difficult. In mere minutes, your quads will be burning and you might find yourself falling to the floor. Start easy with these, and then add time as you can. Starting out with too much too quickly can lead to you quitting before you’ve really gotten the good form the move.

If you want to have nice legs, you have got to work hard. The legs are one of the hardest parts of the body to work for many people. Use all of these moves to tone, shape, and sculpt the legs into the summer legs you have been dreaming about.
