Make Jogging Fun with These 4 Tips
By Virginia Laird
Have you ever thought that it may be nice to feel the wind in your face while enjoying the freedom of a jog long enough to let all the cares of the world go? The idea of this may sound enticing. However, the reality of accomplishing such can prove to be more harsh than imagined. Whether it is a lack of endurance, patience, pain, or sheer boredom that keeps you from loving to jog, it matters not. Loving to jog can be a learned art. Health and wellness experts advise that while jogging may not be for everyone, most can learn to enjoy it using a few helpful tips. Some of these include:
- Never jog without fully charged devices
- Be sure to hydrate along the way
- Avoid jogging more than you are ready to do
- Ask a friend to jog with you
Never Jog Without Fully Charged Devices
Having great music or uplifting messages to listen to along your route can be a huge factor in sticking to your plan. These things can keep your mind off of the remaining time or the distance you have yet to complete. However, to take full advantage of the tunes you have planned it is best to make sure to have a fully charged phone and headphones. There is nothing worse than one (or both) of these losing all charge before you are ready to be finished.
Be Sure to Hydrate Along the Way
Hydration plays a big role in keeping joggers on their path. It can be difficult to figure out how to carry your water along without it being a burden. There are many devices available, including fannypacks, waistbands, and bottles with hand straps that all have the ability to hold a waterbottle while jogging. It may be worth your while to invest in one of these to help you stay hydrated while putting in your mileage.
Avoid Jogging More Than You Are Ready to Do
While it can be tempting to set out on the trail and jog until you can no longer stand up, it is not wise. Health and wellness experts suggest that it is best for those who want to begin jogging to start with a short time or one mile at a time. This allows the jogger to feel success on the first day. Doing too much as you begin can lead to injury and contribute to losing interest.
Ask a Friend to Jog with You
If you are one who would rather be social, it may be best for you to invite a friend to join you on the trail. Having a running buddy can help keep you motivated to get up and get moving. There is no need for you and your friend to join a gym to get the jog time in. Running through your neighborhood can do the trick and be more convenient for both of you.
If you are serious about learning to love jogging, make sure you get started while the fresh spring breeze is in the air. There is nothing as invigorating as letting yourself get lost in your jog on a day full of the beauty of spring. Now charge your phone and headphones, dust off your jogging shoes and get out the door.
