Create a Fitness Rewards System to Stay Motivated

By Lana Bandoim

When first starting an exercise regimen, you are usually excited to get into shape and watch the scale. However, the excitement quickly fades. You start to create excuses so you don't have to go the gym. You pretend that one day of exercise is enough to get results. If you are one of those people who has lost their motivation, then you may want to create a fitness rewards system.

Why You Need a Rewards System

After losing the motivation to exercise, you may feel guilty or angry. However, punishment may not be the best way to get the motivation back. Instead, create a rewards system that will encourage you to follow an exercise plan. Attaching a positive system or program to your exercise goals will give you more confidence.

What to Pick for Your Fitness Rewards

Avoid making food part of your fitness reward system because most people have a hard time getting excited about healthy food options. It is difficult to get motivated to run for an hour and know that only apple slices and almonds are waiting for you at the end.

Instead of food, focus on other rewards such as clothes or shoes. Shopping sprees or spa days can be fun rewards for following an exercise plan, and they will not sabotage your weight loss goals.

How to Create a System

The most important part of creating a fitness rewards system is to customize it. You have to make a system that fits your lifestyle and goals. If you know that a daily reward is necessary for you to go to the gym, then you should not be ashamed to create a system that gives you a small incentive every day. On the other hand, if you respond better to long-term goals, then it is better to have a big reward waiting for you after exercising for a month or longer.

How to Keep Track of Your System

A simple journal or notebook may be enough for you to keep track of your fitness goals and rewards. You may also want to explore online fitness apps to document your progress. Whether you pick up a new notebook or find an app, the objective is to find an easy way to stay motivated.

If your motivation to exercise is fading, then you may want to create a fitness rewards system. It will encourage you to stay in shape and track your progress.
