Odd, Fun Lifestyle Tips That May Improve Your Health
By Genevieve Cunningham
You’re ready to change your health for the better. You’ve made up your mind and no one can talk you out of your quest for enhancing your life through healthy changes. But where are you supposed to start? What changes are you supposed to make, and how do you make them stick? If you want to enhance your health, but you’re not quite ready to hit the gym or drastically alter your eating habits, check out these three slightly odd, but very beneficial ways to boost your health with only slight changes to your life.
Plant a Garden
A garden is a lot of work. You have to turn over the ground, fertilize, plant, weed, water, and keep an eye on your plants every day. But the rewards are bigger than you can imagine. Spending time in your garden (and outdoors) gives you the opportunity to fill your lungs with fresh air every day. Gardening also requires physical movement such as walking, bending, pulling, and digging. It’s exercise without having to think about it. Lastly, gardening has been shown to reduce depression, boost and stabilize moods, and even out mental health. And at the end of the season, you get to enjoy your hard work with a feast.
Hang Out
Most of us love to hang out with friends and loved ones anyway, so why not do it in the name of better health? The act of sharing experiences, conversations, and a good laugh with loved ones can significantly improve both your physical and mental well-being. The key? You should enjoy their company without resorting to unhealthy measures. If your current group of friends are fond of smoking cigarettes and drinking a little too much, their company won’t outweigh the negative aspects of these habits. Try to hang out with friends drinking coffee (or green tea!), sitting around outdoors, reading together, working out … the options are endless! Just choose something healthy, gather your favorite people, and enjoy your time and the boost in health.
Drink the Red Wine
If you like to unwind with a drink at the end of the day, make it a glass of red wine. Red wine has antioxidants that have been shown to protect the heart and mind. A glass at the end of the day can help protect your body as well as help you wind down and relax for the night. The only catch? It’s not a free-for-all. You have to maintain your restraint and stop after a glass. Too much red wine negates the positive benefits and brings about the negative effects of alcohol.
While working out and restricting your diet are excellent ways to boost your health and feel your best, it can be easier than that. Use these tips to improve your health as a whole. They’re a little odd, but they’re a ton of fun! With a slight change to your lifestyle every day, you can enhance the health you have and protect yourself for a lifetime.
