Culture Has Nothing to do with Seeking Good Health

By Tom Herrin

Foods may be considered regional or more available in some places than they are in others.  When it comes to preparing and seasoning foods, culture may play a part. When it comes to making every effort to do whatever it takes, all bets are off.  People who diligently strive to find ways to manage and/or improve their health are not bound by any particular stigmas about the cultures that may embrace any particular thing that seems associated with it.  With all this said, one of those things that many think of as a cultural seasoning is garlic. At one time, there were a lot of unconscious prejudices that seemed connected to those who frequently used garlic. This is no longer the case as its use has been shown to produce some good results in several ways.

It May Help Deter Yeast Infections

Many women, especially, often find issues with yeast infections.  These are frequently found to be more common in those who have diabetes and poor glucose control.  Garlic is known to have some antifungal properties that appear to help to treat or prevent some yeast infections.  The allicin in garlic is believed to help as both an antifungal and antiviral property.

It May Help Control Blood Pressure

In today’s society, blood pressure problems are really common.  Whether it is due to diet or lifestyle, it is often something that may be managed with some minor changes.  It is pretty well-known that people fail to get enough exercise. It is also no secret that many people have poor diets that lend themselves to high blood pressure.  Garlic contains polysulfides that appear to have the ability to make blood vessels more flexible. This allows them to expand under stress, keeping blood pressure at a lower level.

It May Help the Liver

The liver is a vital organ whose function can wreak havoc on the body when it is having any kind of problems.  Garlic has shown to be effective in helping to restore liver function when people have non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.  These would be cases related to abdominal fat or metabolic problems. In general, garlic is an herb that can enhance food in many kinds of meals.  It also looks like a good option to try to help in several other areas of health. If you are worried about the odor, it is available in odorless supplements, so don’t let that stand in the way of you giving it a try.
