How to Stay Cool This Summer

Trying to stay cool during the summer can be a challenge. From high humidity that destroys the hair to high heat that makes it hard to work, it can be difficult to survive the warmer months. If baking in the sun is not on your wish list, then consider the following tips to stay cool.
Focus on Water
Whether you carry a water bottle with you all the time or swim every day, water can make staying cool easier. Make sure hydration is always the focus during the summer. Try to drink water throughout the day so there is no risk of becoming thirsty. If plain water is boring, add fruit to make it taste better. Consider adding slices of strawberry or watermelon to a water bottle.
Change the Bulbs
Incandescent bulbs emit more heat than other types of light fixtures. Switch to LED bulbs or fluorescent ones. The longer days make it easier to keep the lights off, but changing the bulbs also helps.
Close the Curtains
Curtains can block the sun’s rays and heat during the day. Keep them closed as long as possible. Also, consider getting blackout curtains designed to keep the heat out. They do not have to be black. It is easy to find a variety of patterns and colors that will match your style.
Turning on the oven during a hot summer day may feel like a nightmare. You do not want to heat up the interior of the home. However, feeding the kids ice cream for dinner is also not an option. Consider adjusting how you cook to keep the house cool. Try to use a microwave oven or toaster oven to heat food rapidly. Use a slow cooker for meals that require more time. Also, consider serving easier dishes such as sandwiches or salads.
Try to wear more cotton during the summer. Loose and light fabrics make it easier to tolerate the heat and give the skin a chance to breathe. Avoid synthetic materials and wool. Try putting some of your clothes in the freezer before putting them on. This can make dressing in the morning more fun and help you stay cool.
Try these tips during the summer to stay cool. Hiding from the sun and heat by staying indoors is not always an option. However, it is still possible to enjoy the warmer months.
