Yes! You Can Still Travel Without Going Too Far
By Donna Stark
Has the travel bug been bugging you a lot lately? If you are missing those summer vacations or find yourself dreaming about all the trips you aren't taking, you are not alone! Many of us have had to put our travel plans on hold indefinitely, but that doesn't mean you need to sit back and stare at your living room walls. There are plenty of other things you can do that will get you out of the house and into vacation-mode, even if you don't leave the state. Take a look at some of the best ways you can nip those travel cravings in the bud.
Get Outside
Grab your family and lace up your shoes. It's time to explore the great outdoors! Walk the trails at your local parks and forests. Row along the banks of your neighboring creek or to the middle of the town lake. Whether you are hiking, fishing, stargazing, or sitting on a beach, you will be glad that you have chosen to experience the best of what Mother Nature has to offer. And if you close your eyes, it won't be too hard to imagine being somewhere different.
Hit the Zoo
Many zoos are still open and some are even offering car rides through their park, so take advantage of this opportunity and check out some critters. This is a great way to catch the crazy antics of all the animals you don't always get to be around. From giraffes to koalas to bison to bears, you and your family will be sure to get an eyeful. Keep in mind that many like to nap the afternoon away, so time your visit accordingly.
Try New Flavors
If you are missing a vacation to a specific country, check your local restaurants to see if there is one that highlights that country's cuisine. If there is, go ahead and order a bunch of their dishes for takeout and head to your local park for a gourmet picnic. Or, if you don't mind "traveling" back to home and eating your dinner there, combine your meal with a movie that highlights your country and get ready to be transported!
Plan a Hotel Staycation
Have you been so consumed with traveling to foreign lands that you have looked past what is in your own backyard? Spend the weekend at a local resort and sign up for a sunset horse ride, challenge your family to a game of golf, or treat you and your significant other to lazy mornings and breakfast in bed. It may be just what you need to rest and revitalize!
Lots to Do
Sure, nothing beats getting on a plane and flying to an exotic location, but if traveling is on the back burner right now, there are still plenty of ways to experience adventure! You just need to look for it.
