Getting a Balanced Body: A How-To Guide
By Genevieve Cunningham
Balance is a relatively small word with big implications. We use it to talk about work and life, mental and physical health, inner calmness and peace, and a million other parts of life. But what’s so important about balance anyway?
According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, balance is equally distributing one’s weight so as not to fall. While this is a literal definition, it’s easy to see why we apply it to so many different aspects of life … because we don’t want to fall literally or metaphorically. When it comes to our health, balance is key to living a full and productive life. But how do we do it, especially in regards to health? Take a look at this quick how-to for finding balance in your health and life as a whole.
Move More, Sit Less
If you want your body to be balanced, literally and physically, you have to give it strength. And the only way to do this is to exercise, stay mobile, and remain active in life. Sitting, which is what far too many of us do far too often, causes your body to become stiff, inflexible, and generally unwell. Try incorporating an exercise routine at least four times a week. In everyday life, try avoiding the couch and getting outside. It’s a simple concept, but sometimes tough to do until you get used to it: Move more, sit less, and watch your body regain some of its balance.
Eliminate All of That Junk
Junk food is full of ingredients that are tough on the body. These toxins can cause unwanted weight gain, which can then lead to an imbalance in the hormones. The hormones in our body are on a very delicate balance. When they are not properly balanced, it can absolutely wreak havoc on multiple areas of your body. While there are many ways to balance the hormones and therefore the body, eliminating junk food is a great place to start. Start slow, but stick with it, and you may find benefits roll in faster and faster.
Incorporate Chiropractic Care
Of all the preventative healthcare measures out there, chiropractic care is one of the best for keeping your body balanced. Chiropractors work specifically on maintaining the health of the spine. They’ll look for and correct misalignments of the vertebrae, which balances your body in a literal sense, as the rest of the body tends to follow the lead of the spine. It can also relieve pain, improve range of motion, and bring other benefits to your body that can make you feel more balanced, more stable, and overall healthier.
