Beating Fatigue Once and For All: A Quick How-To

By Genevieve Cunningham

We’re all tired from time to time. Perhaps you stayed up too late or worked harder than usual yesterday. It’s only normal to be exhausted the next day. But what happens when this exhausted state sticks around? What happens when fatigue becomes a staple in everyday life? If you’re feeling more tired than you should be, take a look at these tips to beat fatigue and find a little energy today.

Be Active

You might think that more activity will only make you more tired, but that’s not usually the case. Being too sedentary can actually keep you from sleeping at night, which can then make you feel more fatigued. If you want to beat fatigue, get active during the day. Exercise, join a volunteer group, meet with friends … just get up and get moving. The more you move, the better you'll feel, and the more energy you're likely to have naturally.

Improve Your Diet

A poor diet can really wreak havoc on health as a whole, and sleep is definitely no different. If you’re feeling fatigued day in and day out, it’s possible that your body is lacking important nutrients. Go over your daily diet item by item to make sure it’s as balanced as possible. Fill it with lean meats, whole grains, fruits, and veggies. You can also try adding a basic vitamin to fill in the gaps and improve fatigue. As the nutritional gaps are filled, you may find more energy and less of that rundown feeling with each day that goes by.

Get More Sleep

Let’s not forget the obvious. Sometimes fatigue is caused by a lack of rest. Staying up all night watching TV or playing video games is not helping the fatigue. If you’re not getting adequate sleep, make it a priority to get more. Set a bedtime and stick with it. Turn off the electronics and turn up the air conditioner. The more quality rest you get on a regular basis, the more likely you are to leave fatigue far behind.

Fatigue is sometimes a part of life, but for the most part, it’s not something that should plague you daily. If you’re feeling a bit exhausted too often, it might be a sign that something is wrong. Use these tips to kick fatigue out for good and to find the energy you need to enjoy and thrive in everyday life.
