How to Make Your Chiropractic Visit More Worthwhile
By Brandi Goodman
Showing up to the chiropractor immediately following work may not be the best idea. Although the care you receive can still help, it may not produce all the desired effects you could have received if you made a more conscious effort for it to do so. There are things you can do to make your visit more worthwhile.
Drink Plenty of Water
Stiff and unmovable joints that are not well-hydrated are not ideal for a chiropractic visit. You want your joints limber and able to be manipulated during the adjustment. Drink plenty of water before the visit to ensure your joints are prepared. It's also wise to drink plenty afterward so they stay pliable.
Wear the Right Clothes
A suit and tie will not suffice for a chiropractic adjustment. You need to have comfortable clothes that are somewhat form-fitting for the best experience. Loose and baggy items are also not ideal, because they can get in the chiropractor's way and hinder the adjustment. Make sure to avoid jewelry as well. The clothes you wear for a gym workout may be best.
Always Be Honest
When the chiropractor asks about your medical history, there's no need to fib your way through it. Just be honest and let them know what types of medications you've really taken and what surgeries or traumas you've experienced. Your daily lifestyle habits require honesty as well. The chiropractor will tailor your adjustment and your additional tips to try at home based on what you tell him.
Realize There May be Cracking Sounds
Hearing your joints crack and pop may seem scary at first. Just be sure you realize beforehand that these sounds are possible -- and they're nothing to worry about. Remain calm and do not attempt to jump up simply because you heard something crack. The chiropractor will always use care when performing your adjustment. The sounds are often due to air moving into the space.
Ask All the Questions You Want
Don't hesitate to ask questions. That's what the chiropractor is there for. They want you to ask any questions you may have so you can get the exact service and advice you need for a healthier life and better well-being.
Getting chiropractic for the first, or even fiftieth time, can seem daunting. Learn to have a little trust in the doctor performing your adjustment, and do things necessary to make said adjustment go that much more smoothly. It can make a world of difference.
