Why Conservative Care Keeps Coming Up

By Sandy Schroeder

We live in an age that has steadily become more complex, and sometimes fairly difficult.  One of the current issues is the large amount of prescription opioid medication available in our communities that has become a serious issue for addiction nationwide.

The medical community has responded to reduce opioid painkiller prescriptions, and designated chiropractic as “the conservative first choice,” ahead of prescription medications or surgery.

The National Institutes of Health says individualized patient-centered care is needed to treat and monitor some 100 million Americans living with chronic pain. NIH has singled out chiropractic as a natural option for pain relief. They praise chiropractors for finding and treating the underlying causes of pain, offering a whole person approach to health through spinal care.

Opiate Treatment Hazards

Meanwhile, the Harvard medical community says there is little evidence supporting the widespread use of prescription opiates for chronic low back pain. The pain pills have not enabled people to return to their regular activities or reduced disability rates, while the addiction and overdose rates have continued to advance.

A recent study in JAMA Internal Medicine led by Dr. Abdel Shaheed says only short-term benefits were useful and pain-relief was not that great when opioids were used.  They said, simply taking pain pills doesn’t fix low back pain, and it can create many problems.

What This Means

If you are personally facing the opioid medication problem, or simply want to be informed to protect your family from the problem, chiropractic can be a good resource.

When you or your family visit, licensed chiropractors will be ready to describe spinal health treatment and to offer assistance and information on any opioid issues. They may suggest that you work with your physician on any current opioid medication situations, and add chiropractic to help find new natural alternatives.

When you visit, you will have a chance to experience hands-on chiropractic spinal care, learning how pain can be managed naturally, gradually helping to restore normal routines.

Chiropractic Assistance

Weekly 15-minute chiropractic sessions, or other patterns of regular treatment, can be arranged to help you with whatever health issues you are currently facing.

Over the years, I have watched many friends and relatives use chiropractic as the key health and wellness resource that they relied on for immediate and long term success. Now, as families face new opioid medication prescription challenges, that chiropractic pattern may be the way to help individuals and communities approach this problem.
