Chiropractic May Help You Do an End Run on Pain
By Sandy Schroeder
With September lurking just around the corner, your family may be thinking of fall sports, and you may be hoping to do an end run around those painful twinges that never quite go away.
If pain is slowing you way down, your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic may have the answers you need.
Answers to Pain
The Joint's doctors of chiropractic help people of all ages find answers to pain, and solutions for continued wellness. They help people confront pain in the shoulders, back, neck, elbows, wrists, knees and ankles that may respond well to a gentle targeted spinal adjustment.
The Spinal Connection
When spinal health is achieved, overall health often shows improvement. The spine houses the central nervous system that serves as command control for the body.
Wellness is unique to the individual. You may experience far-reaching pain relief, along with fresh energy and more alertness. Individuals also report improved metabolism and better sleep.
On the Wellness Track
You may choose to do weekly 15-minute adjustments to keep the positive momentum going. Your chiropractor will monitor your progress and have more tips for maintenance and prevention. Stretching exercises, posture improvement, workplace checks, and activity tips can all help to get you in shape for fall.
Posture Assessment
Where do you stand on posture? Take a look in a three-way mirror to see. Then straighten up with this American Chiropractic Association guide.
- Keep weight mostly on balls of feet
- Knees should be bent a little
- Position feet even with shoulder width
- Stand tall with shoulders back
- Tuck in your stomach
- Keep head level and centered over spine
- Avoid head forward positions
Workplace Report Card
If you are one of the many computer job dwellers, sitting for extended periods of time, do the homework to avoid long-term pain.
- Make sure your chair is adjustable and provides good shoulder and back support
- Keep knees slightly above hips with about three fingers of space between back of knee and edge of chair
- Keep monitors and all other screens at eye level
- Set up screen reminders to take five-minute breaks every hour
Activity Roll Call
- Show up every day for 30 minutes of walking or other exercises approved by your doctor
- Move rather than sit when you are at home, and at work, if possible
- Keep looking for new ways to stay active: sports, hikes, biking, gym or community classes, swimming, or dancing
