Causes and Remedies for Musculoskeletal Pain

By Madhusudhan Tammisetti

Muscle aches and pain may happen to anyone at any time. They normally affect the tendons, ligaments, muscles, and bones that help you to get about in your everyday life. Injury, poor balance, repeated movements, overuse, and plain old wear and tear may contribute to musculoskeletal pain. For instance, your whole body may ache, or you may experience pain in a particular area due to a pulled muscle or twisted ankle. If the pain is severe enough, it may prevent you from sleeping and make you exhausted. A chiropractor may help you relieve musculoskeletal pain in a variety of ways. Some of them include heat or ice therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic massage, and relaxation.

Joint Pain May Cause Muscle Pain

Inflammatory arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and infections arthritis, may not only cause musculoskeletal pain, but it may also damage the portion of the bone within the joint, causing more complications. When the injured joint is moved, the pain worsens, and certain joint pain cases are caused near the joint structures, such as tendons, ligaments, and bursae.

Tendon and Ligament Pain

Tendinitis, lateral or medial epicondylitis, tenosynovitis, and tendon injury are all common causes that result in pain. Tendon and ligament pain is most often caused by severe trauma, such as a sprain sustained in a sports injury. The pain is often sharp and is intensified when the injured tendon is moved or stretched. If you're suffering from tendon and ligament pain, a chiropractor may suggest rest to get relief from pain.

Nerve Compression

Carpal tunnel syndrome, tarsal tunnel syndrome, and cubital tunnel syndrome are nerve compression disorders. Burning, tingling, and numbness are common sensations associated with pain that radiates along a nerve's supply line.

Chiropractic Treatment

If you're suffering from musculoskeletal pain, you may consult a chiropractor for pain relief. The chiropractor may suggest taking sufficient rest, ice therapy, resting the knee, and physical therapy, including stretching exercises.

The recovery phase may be hampered if your muscles are constantly stressed. A lack of rest often exacerbates musculoskeletal pain.

Ice therapy may be as simple as putting ice over the injured knee to assist with pain and swelling. It's best to use an ice sheet, but ice cubes in a bag of frozen fruits and vegetables or a towel may suffice. It's advised to apply ice on the affected area for up to 20 minutes.

Elevating the knee joint may help ease pressure on the joint and restore blood to the upper body. Lift the knee above the level of the heart by using pillows to support the leg.

Strengthening workouts may help the body deal with soreness and muscle aches more effectively. Stretching keeps the legs long and limber.
