Seeing Red Can Be Good For Your Health

It is a safe bet that there are a lot of foods we would rather stay away from.  It is not necessarily that they taste bad, more a matter of just the thought of the food.  There is either a stigma about it or a fear that it is not likely to be good.  If this is the case, it may be simpler to stay away from these.  One of these such foods is beets.  It is one of those things that somebody said was good for you, but we feel as if we know better.  The truth is that beets can add something to a meal and have very definite benefits to our health.

Beets Are High In Fiber And Vitamins

Along with a lot of other vegetables, beets contain plenty of vitamins.  Its content of B vitamins makes it a great choice.  Many of us are lacking sufficient amounts of these vitamins.  Without enough of them, they may suffer dementia, low energy, and other things that have a real impact on our health.  Beets are well known as a good source of iron, which helps our blood carry sufficient oxygen to enable us to do work.  With ample fiber, beets can help protect our digestive system.

It Can Improve Functions of the Circulatory System

When it comes to the major jobs of the cardiovascular system, beets are the real deal.  Consumption of beet juice has shown to have dramatic effects on the systolic blood pressure.  It also shows signs of delaying clotting for a while after drinking it.  

The Liver Is The Real Winner

I am not sure how many foods are believed to help the liver, but beets have some pretty impressive perks involving it.  Beets seem to have some ability to lessen the load on the work of the liver.  An amino acid called betaine can lessen the amount of fats which the liver has to process.  Beets can actually reduce the size of the liver.  The betaine can also improve liver function.  With all our liver has to do in detoxing the body, this is a critical consideration.

This Scratched the Surface

The list of benefits of adding beets to the diet is pretty long.  Other things on it include increasing stamina and helping blood vessels in the brain to have more flexibility.  For older people, more blood flow to the brain can help hold off several problems.  There are few others still, but these are enough for me to find a place for beets in my diet.  If you are looking for bang for your buck, it might be worth seeing a little red.
