For the Investment, Treadmills May Work Well

By Tom Herrin

Money is not everything, but it can buy some things that may make a difference.  As for treadmills, people may purchase them or use them at all kinds of facilities.  Even for those who feel they need to get outdoors and hit the track or trail, using a treadmill may be a viable option that can allow them to maintain a regular exercise program regardless of the conditions outside.  Even many die-hards find them a good alternative to exposing themselves to adverse conditions once the weather becomes unfavorable for spending time dealing with the elements.

It May Boost Mental Health

Most people today have times in which they get a little down.  It may be just due to stress in general, or it could be from some health issue.  Either way, doing something positive about it may make a difference.  Running or walking on a treadmill can be a great way to gain some control over one's own life.  The feeling of moving is always good.  Since the conditions in which they work out can be managed to a great extent when using a treadmill, this may combine with the physical benefits to produce a good outcome.  Feeling better and happier can change a perspective.

Treadmills Can Be a Tool for Losing Weight

When people get on a program designed to lose weight, they often need a little extra to help them burn calories in addition to making dietary changes.  A few minutes per day can do a lot.  Most treadmills allow people to set time and speed so that they can use it a part of their plan.  It may be included in their goals.  Since most have enough cushion to avoid excessive physical stress, they may save some injuries related to impact.

You Can Create an Environment That Is Friendly

Many times, when I have tried to begin any kind of exercise program, I would bog down due to some factor that would interfere with my progress.  With a treadmill, there are few excuses.  Time and conditions are almost not present.  Some people listen to music while running or walking.  I sometimes watch something on television.  I like to program my time according to what I have available.  I also like to begin at a slow pace, gradually increase it, then slow it down again as I approach a cool-down phase.
